A 23-year-old athlete who is said to have presented false documents to an anti doping agency purporting to be a genuine prescription form issued by Kericho County referral hospital was arraigned today before a Kericho court.
Henry Kiprotich Sang denied committing the offence through his advocate when he appeared before Kericho Senior Resident Magistrate Benard Kipyegon Rugut.
He is alleged to have presented an anti-doping certificate issued at Kericho County Referral hospital to the Kenya anti-doping agency after visiting the facility on December 23, 2017 where he sought treatment as he was not feeling well before proceeding to China for a race.
Sang is charged that on January 19, 2018 at an anti doping agency offices at Parklands Plaza, West Nairobi with intent to deceive presented a false document Art prescription form to Dennis Keitany, a compliance officer of the Kenya anti-doping agency purporting to be a genuine prescription form issued by Kericho County Referral Hospital.
Evidence documented by the prosecution showed that Sang tested positive for banned substances by the anti doping agency after completing the Macao Galaxy Marathon in China 2017 where he came 3rd.
The complainant, Dennis Keitany, received the said document from the legal department in the anti-doping agency.
The accused was released on a cash bail of Shs10, 000.
The case was fixed for a mention on July 8, 2019.
