Bandari on Saturday remained at the summit of the Sportspesa Premier league after beating Nzoia Sugar 1- 0 in a tough match played at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa.
The only important goal was scored in the ninth minute by Felly Mulumba through a penalty after Yema Muama was brought down by a Nzoia Sugar defender.
The victory was a clear statement on the seriousness of the Mombasa based team to win this year’s top football league in the country for the first time.
Bandari who came second behind Gor Mahia in last year’s league has now collected 31 points after playing 15 matches.
Gor Mahia is second with 25 points from 14 matches while Mathare United follows in third position with same points after playing 14 matches.
Despite losing the match, Nzoia Sugar played a good game. They were however let down by their strikers who missed several clear chances.
Bandari goalkeeper Faruk Shikhalu made sure the Dockers collected the three vital points when he saved what was a clear chance from Haniel Ochieng’s dangerous shot in the 60th minute.
Bandari Coach Bernard Mwalala praised his players for collecting the three points saying the visiting team gave them a tough competition.
Mwalala said the team will keep on working hard to realize her objective of winning this year’s premier league title.
