Chairman of Murang’a County Public Service Board dies in accident

A somber mood has engulfed the administration of the Murang’a county government after the chairman of the County Public Service Board died in a road accident along the Thika Superhighway in Nairobi .
Mr. Titus Waithaka, 55, died on the spot after the car he was driving rammed on a guardrail along Thika road near Safari Park in the outskirts of Nairobi.
The chairman who was driving himself in a county government double cabin Isuzu Dmax pickup veered off the road hitting the guardrail which pierced through the vehicle during the 4am incident.
Waithaka was heading to Nairobi from Murang’a at the dawn of Sunday when the accident occurred.
On learning of the county official’s death, Murang’a governor Mwangi wa Iria send a message of condolences to the bereaved family.
Wa Iria termed Waithaka as a committed civil servant who brought order and calm in the board at a time when the previous one was marred with differences and personal conflicts during his first term in office.
Wa Iria said the board has been operating well under leadership of the late Waithaka who stamped his authority to ensure proper service delivery to staff.
“It’s a very sorry state to lose a very hardworking servant who was at peace with everybody. We will pray and console his family and all his friends particularly his workmates,” added the governor through a press statement.
The governor urged police to fully investigate the cause of the accident saying his administration is eager to get the full details.
Questions have been raised on the safety of guardrails on local roads considering that a former Nyeri governor Dr Wahome Gakuru died after his vehicle hit a guardrail along the Thika Nyeri road.
