Govt to operationalise six new divisions in Nandi

The government will very soon establish six divisions in Nandi County so as to take services closer to the people, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has stated.

During his visit to the county on Jukwaa La Wananchi interactions in Nandi, CS Murkomen said the six divisions will be picked from areas which have high populations and other vital considerations.

He said the decision was reached after a number of requests were made to his office.

The CS explained that Nandi County was left behind in many ways when administrative units were created across the country.

“On the question of administrative units, this is one of the counties that was left behind in many ways because when we were rolling out administrative units, they made a lot of requests, and from today I will be operationalising six divisions,” Murkomen said during his press briefing at Nandi County Administrative Headquarters.

He said the residents in areas that have been gazetted for operationalisation of administrative units will now enjoy government services more easily than before.

During his submission, Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Dr. Abdi Hassan revealed that the residents of Ndalat in Nandi North and Kapkoros in Nandi East were overjoyed when administrative units in their areas were operationalised.

He thanked CS Murkomen for considering the creation of more divisions in Nandi, including the proposed Serem Division in Nandi South, which borders the counties of Kisumu and Vihiga.

Among the divisions that have been proposed for consideration are Songo Soba in Nandi South, Kapsimotwo, Chemundu and Mosoriot.

Nandi County Commissioner Caroline Nzwili said the creation of more divisions and locations will make administrative work easier, with locals enjoying government services at their doorstep.

Area residents thanked the government for the move, saying they will now enjoy government services, unlike before, when they travelled far off to get them.
