Hotel managers in Malindi Sub County have called on the National government through the National Counter Terrorism Centre to empower hotel staff and management on how to respond during terror attacks.
Speaking to the press Ms. Maurine Awuor, the General Manager of Ocean Beach Resort who is also the Chairperson of Kenya Hotel Keepers and Caterers North Coast said that hotel staff and management have been left behind in this training.
“Only the hotels guards have been trained on how to fight against terrorist attacks, the rest of the staff have no idea on what to do when such an incident occurs,” said Ms. Awuor.
The Chairperson said whenever a terrorist attack happens in the country, the hotel industry becomes the most affected in the tourism sector since tourists fear for the safety of their lives.
She therefore said the National Counter Terrorism centre should make an effort to visit hotels in Kilifi County to train the staff on how to fight against terror attacks.
