Man dies and another sustains serious injuries in a motorcycle accident

A man died and another one sustained serious injuries after their motorcycles collided on Marimanti-Gatunga road in Tharaka South Sub County Tuesday.
The accident occurred near Marimanti Police Station at around 9.00 pm according to Marimanti OCS Charles Njinji.
Njinji said the injured rider, Mukaathe Muriungi is fighting for his life at Meru Referral hospital.
He identified the dead as Peter Nyaga who was the driver of Gatunga Health Centre ambulance but at the time of the accident was riding a motorcycle.
Njinji said upon receiving the information, they rushed to the scene and took the injured to Marimanti Sub County hospital and the body to Chuka Level Four Hospital mortuary.
Mr. Muriungi’s relatives however transferred him to Meru Level Five Hospital fearing that the sub-county hospital could not cope with the nature of his injuries.
They hired a vehicle to rush him to the hospital about one hundred kilometers away because all the ambulances at Marimanti Sub County hospital were grounded.
Angry residents of Marimanti town have faulted the county government for failing to repair ambulances and equipping the hospital with medical equipment and drugs.
Marimanti Sub-County hospital Assistant Medical Superintendent Dr. Evans Aketch confirmed that all their ambulances were currently grounded.
