Three pedestrians lost their lives last evening when a vehicle veered off the road along the Busia- Kisumu road a few metres from Korinda roadblock in Busia town.
The five pm incident saw one victim die on the spot while the other two succumbed while undergoing treatment at Busia Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Speaking to the press at the scene of the accident, Nangina MCA John Obwogo condemned the incident blaming the police for taking bribes instead of performing their duties.
Obwogo noted that illegal trade was rampant in the county adding that police officers collude with those engaging in the illegal activity.
“We cannot continue losing our people as police officers solicit bribes from these people,” he said adding that the vehicle that caused the accident had a Ugandan number plate.
He threatened that the local residents will take the law into their hands to protect themselves if the trend continues.
The MCA at the same challenged Busia County Police Commander Wambua Katithi to ensure that police officers who have overstayed in the County are transferred for better service delivery.
Moses Muleka, a local resident urged the police to ensure that cation is taken against the driver of the vehicle who caused the accident.
