NGAAF empowerment drive uplifts Gitamaiyu residents

Residents of Gitamaiyu, Riabai Ward, Kiambu county have benefited from a wide-ranging empowerment program under the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), spearheaded by Kiambu Women Representative, Anne Muratha.

The outreach, held in partnership with local leaders, was aimed at boosting livelihoods, supporting education, and promoting community welfare.

A wide range of items including blow dryers and hair dryers for salon operators, shaving machines for barbers, UV machines, and motorbike umbrellas were distributed to support small-scale entrepreneurs.

Learners at Kiu River primary and secondary schools also received sanitary towels, an intervention designed to ensure girls don’t miss classes due to menstrual-related challenges.

The elderly were also gifted with blankets, while food supplies were shared among all those present, symbolizing care and togetherness.

Muratha emphasized that the initiative was not just about giving, but about empowering.

“Empowerment is not just about giving; it is about creating opportunities, restoring dignity, and building stronger communities,” she said.

“Every tool given, every student supported, and every meal shared is a seed sown for a brighter Kiambu,” reiterated Muratha.

The beneficiaries welcomed the support, describing it as timely and life-changing.

Jane Wanjiku, a local salonist who received a blow dryer, expressed her gratitude, adding, “This machine means so much to me.”

“I have been borrowing equipment from friends to serve my clients, but now I can work independently and even expand my small business. It gives me hope that I can better provide for my children,” said Wanjiku.

Local leaders also lauded the program’s impact whereby Riabai MCA Hezron and Ting’ang’a Ward MCA Napoleon, who were present at the event, said such initiatives strengthen community resilience and help reduce unemployment.

The NGAAF empowerment initiative, which continues to roll out across Kiambu, underscores the government’s commitment to inclusive socio-economic development.

With each outreach, the program aims to restore dignity, reduce inequalities and ensure that no resident is left behind.

By combining education support, business empowerment, and community welfare, the initiative has positioned itself as a key driver of grassroots development in the county.
