Hundreds of young people in Kiambu Constituency are benefiting from free technical training sessions, aimed at equipping them with employable and entrepreneurial skills.
The programme conducted every weekend at the Kiambu NG-CDF Building, is a partnership between the Office of the Kiambu Member of Parliament (MP), Machua Waithaka and the International Youth Fellowship (IYF).
It offers courses in beauty and hairdressing, catering, plumbing, paramedics, welding and fabrication, electrical installation, barbering, computer packages, theology, and Korean and Chinese languages.
“The initiative was designed to empower the youth with practical skills for self-reliance. We must ensure our young people are able to compete in the job market. Therefore, this training will give them tools to earn a living and uplift their families,” said Machua.
The MP urged the trainees within his Constituency to take the opportunity seriously and use it as a springboard for business start-ups, employment, and community development.
One of the beneficiaries, Alice Mwangi, enrolled in computer programming, said she had long desired such training, but could not afford the high fees.
“This is a golden chance for me. I am now able to learn computer programming without paying a cent. It will change my life and open opportunities for me,” she said.
Another trainee, John Mwangi, who joined the welding and fabrication class, said he hoped to start his own fabrication business after completing the course.
Organisers said registration is ongoing every Saturday and Sunday at the NG-CDF Building for youth residing in Kiambu Constituency. The training runs every weekend, with hundreds expected to graduate with technical certificates in the coming months.
