35 businesses recognised at KNCCI Vihiga awards gala

Vihiga County Government has reiterated its commitment to fostering a supportive environment for businesses, as 35 enterprises were recognised during the second edition of the Vihiga County Business Awards.

The ceremony, held at Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU), also saw the university honoured as the best institution of higher learning in the county, highlighting its contribution to education and community development.

The recognition underscored the university’s commitment to fostering agribusiness, smart agriculture, and youth-driven entrepreneurship in the region.

Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo, who presided over the event, said the administration’s continued collaboration with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) has contributed to improved tax collection, following extensive consultations during the formulation of the County Finance Bill.

Dr. Ottichilo expressed satisfaction with the growth recorded in agribusiness and smart agriculture across the county, urging investors to take advantage of the favourable conditions to expand their ventures.

He noted that additional business opportunities were expected with the planned establishment of the Kaimosi Municipality and the construction of a modern market at Cheptulu.

The Governor further announced that the County Government recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KNCCI and allocated Sh50.2 million in the 2025 Supplementary Appropriations Bill to clear pending bills.

He added that youth who benefited from the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) programme would enjoy a two-year tax holiday to support the growth of youth-led enterprises.

The awards gala, themed “Honouring Excellence, Shaping Enterprise Development”, was organised by the Vihiga County Chamber of Commerce and Industry in partnership with other stakeholders.

It brought together a wide range of business actors, with outstanding enterprises recognised across 35 categories.
