44th Edition of KECOSO Games Kicks Off in Embu

The 44th edition of the Kenya Communications Sports Organization (KECOSO) Games kicked off in Embu on Saturday in a colourful ceremony presided over by Governor Cecily Mbarire at Embu Moi Stadium.

Ten teams from key state organizations are participating in this year’s games. They include the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK), Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), and Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).

Others are the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA), Media Council of Kenya (MCK), Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), and Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB).

The week-long competition will feature a variety of sports disciplines, ranging from athletics and ball games such as football, volleyball, basketball, and netball to indoor games including darts, table tennis, pool, scrabble, chess, and snooker.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, KECOSO Governing Council Chair Antony Njagi underscored the significance of the games in promoting unity, talent development, and networking across sectors.

“The games bring together participants from across the 47 counties, reinforcing their role in fostering national cohesion, nurturing sports talent, and raising awareness about the role of public service at the grassroots level,” he said.

Njagi noted that since their inception in 1978, the KECOSO Games have grown into one of Kenya’s largest inter-parastatal sporting events, attracting thousands of participants every year. He also hailed the milestone achievement of registering KECOSO as a sports federation under the Sports Act 2013.

Governor Mbarire assured athletes of adequate security during their stay in Embu and thanked the Council for granting the county the opportunity to host this year’s games.
