Lorry Ferrying Suspected Illicit Alcohol Intercepted in Narok

A lorry suspected of transporting illicit second-generation alcohol was intercepted on Sunday evening at the Ilmashariani roadblock, Narok Central authorities have confirmed.

According to Narok Central Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Ali Shakur, officers from the County Government of Narok’s Enforcement Unit alerted the police after stopping the vehicle, a lorry bearing registration number KCU 082U.

Officers from Narok Police Station later towed the vehicle to the station, where it was jointly inspected by the ACC, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), and other law enforcement personnel.

“It was established during the inspection that the lorry was ferrying suspected second-generation liquor, branded as ‘Space Vodka’, in an unknown quantity. The delivery documents presented by the driver falsely indicated that the cargo was pishori rice,” said ACC Ali Shakur.

The driver was immediately arrested and booked at the station as investigations continue.

Due to the increasing influx of dangerous illicit alcohol in the county, ACC Shakur recommended the destruction of the seized consignment by a multi-agency security team in conjunction with the County Government.

“Subjecting such cases to the criminal justice system has proven ineffective in curbing the menace of illicit liquor. Destruction of the product will serve as a stern warning and a strong deterrent to traders involved in this illegal trade,” he emphasized.

Authorities have intensified surveillance and operations targeting the sale and distribution of illegal alcohol, which poses serious public health and safety risks.

The exact quantity of the seized alcohol is yet to be disclosed, pending further documentation and assessment by relevant agencies.
