Baringo County gears up for Rhino Charge competition

Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi has announced that the county is ready to host the 36th edition of the Rhino Charge, which is a global conservation event.

Cheboi made the remarks after conducting public barazas at Loruk and Kosile in Saimo Soi Ward, Baringo North on Friday where he called on residents, stakeholders and partners to actively participate in the sporting competition which will kick off at Koroto area from 31st of this month and culminate to an award ceremony on June 1st.

The County boss highlighted the importance of the event which is expected to draw international participants, global media and conservation champions from across the world.

He said that apart from showcasing the county’s unique sceneries, the competition will give to support of local institutions and other basic needs in the area which is coming to life after insecurity challenges.

“I want to assure the visitors that the community have expressed the enthusiasm to welcome them. Feel free to be here, the community will ensure your optimum security and anything you deserve,” governor Cheboi said.

The sentiments were echoed by Saimo Soi Ward MCA Michael Chebon who called on residents to warmly welcome the visitors and accord them an enjoyable stay during the event.

Chebon said that the participants and their crew members will boost the hospitality industry within the region therefore calling upon the locals to take advantage of the competition by conducting a 24-hour business during the period.

Kosile Primary School Principal Thomas Akeno requested the organizers to consider their school in provisions of relief food and infrastructure development after it was affected by insecurity.
