Ijara Primary clinches soccer championship title

In a historic sporting moment, Ijara Primary School—representing the North Eastern Region—clinched the National Primary Soccer Championship title with a commanding 3-0 victory over the Central Region team.

The championship was held yesterday at Musingu High School in Kakamega.

Congratulating the team, the Ijara Youth Leader, Salah Yakub Yarrow, said the classic performance from the young stars who thrashed seasoned teams to emerge top will be a motivation to other upcoming youth from the area to take courage, saying winners can emerge even from rural villages.

Yarrow at the same time commended the area Member of Parliament, Abdi Ali Sheikhow for supporting the youth in the constituency, particularly in sports development that has changed youth in the area.

“Our MP has been with these young stars, motivating many of them, which has changed their lives for the better, engaging in social ills,” Mr Yarrow said.

The Youth Leader stressed that the youth need to be mentored and motivated if they are to have their rightful place as responsible and productive citizens in the future.

Ijara residents expressed their joy, saying the area is now on the national map and has proven that it can produce worthy players who have the potential to represent the country and even be world-class stars.

Emerging shining stars of Ijara, before beating Central Region 3-0 in the finals, had earlier crashed Western Region 5-0 in the Semi-Finals.

The team is to represent Kenya in the East African Championship to be held later in the month at the same venue.
