Murang’a Catholic Bishop Urges Parents to Be Vigilant During School Holidays

The Catholic Bishop of Murang’a Diocese, James Maria Wainaina, has called on parents to exercise wisdom and responsibility in raising their children, particularly during the ongoing school holiday period.

Speaking during a Mass to mark St. Paul’s Family Day at Kangari Parish, Bishop Wainaina emphasised the importance of parents being positive role models and nurturing children through values-based upbringing.

“The holidays can be a vulnerable time for young people. It is critical for parents to be present and guide them with love and discipline,” he said.

Bishop Wainaina urged parents to make every effort to provide for their children during the holidays and when schools reopen, so as to ensure their basic needs are met despite prevailing economic challenges.

He further urged parents to provide nutritious meals and to shield their children from risky behaviors and negative influences that often emerge during school breaks.

He underscored the importance of keeping children engaged in constructive activities during the holidays to help them avoid destructive behavior.

In addition, the Bishop encouraged children to use their time responsibly by engaging in positive activities such as reading and learning new skills.

“I would like to urge children to use this holiday well. Those preparing for national exams should remain focused and continue preparing themselves,” said Bishop Wainaina.

He advised children to resist peer pressureshun immoral conduct, and maintain self-discipline even while away from the structured environment of school.
