Muhanda donates 100-Seater tent to Shikumu ADC members

Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda has donated a 100-seater tent to the Shikumu Agricultural Development Committee (ADC) in Idakho Central Ward, Ikolomani constituency, to boost their income.

Speaking during the handover function, Muhanda said the tent would help the group host events and also rent it out for events, thus creating a sustainable revenue stream to support local development projects.

“This is about empowerment that lasts. By providing tools like this tent, we enable our people to earn, invest, and uplift their communities,” she said.

The Shikumu ADC leadership welcomed the gesture, noting that it would cut costs for local functions while opening opportunities to rent the tent to neighbouring communities.

“We can now host weddings, meetings, and social events affordably while using the income to fund our own projects,” said a committee member.

Muhanda said she is committed to grassroots development and will deliver practical solutions that directly improve livelihoods.

The donation is part of her countywide empowerment programme, which provides community groups with equipment, training and opportunities to grow their economic base courtesy of National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF)

Previous beneficiaries have received water tanks, sewing machines, and event chairs to strengthen self-reliance.

Shikumu ADC members are optimistic that the new tent will attract consistent bookings and generate income to reinvest in agriculture, education, and social welfare initiatives in the area.

Muhanda said to deliver long-term economic benefits, she will continue to champion a vision of a self-reliant and economically vibrant Kakamega County.
