The National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has reiterated the government’s commitment to initiating development projects in marginalized areas and bringing equity to the sharing of national resources.
Mbadi said that the Kenya Kwanza government would traverse the country to listen to the people and initiate development projects in areas that had been forgotten by previous governments.
He was speaking during a working tour in Bangali Sub County in Tana River where he noted that all Kenyans paid taxes regardless of their areas and were all entitled to development projects.
The CS dismissed the shareholding talks in government, noting that every Kenyan is a shareholder in the government, through birth and the taxes which are remitted to the government.
The CS said that it was regrettable that the communities in some parts of Tana River were struggling with water scarcity and forced to share a small dam with their livestock after more than 60 years of independence.
“It has become like a norm that some people are paying taxes without getting development projects while others are receiving development. We were placed here by God and Kenya is our rightful home,” Mbadi said.
“There are people who have electricity connectivity in their homes, others, the roads are tarmacked to their doorsteps and have piped water in their homesteads then if you come in a place like this, you find people walking close to 80 kilometers to get water. This is not right,” he added.
Mbadi promised to set aside funds in the next supplementary budget for a water project in the area so as to relieve the citizens from the pain of lack of water.
Bura MP Yakub Adow who was hosting the CS said that he was hopeful that the government will step in to tackle the challenges his people were facing.
