The Federation of East Africa School Sports Association (FEASSA) championship is intensifying as St. Anthony Boys from Kitale, Kakungulu from Uganda and St. Charles Lwanga inch closer to lifting the hockey title.
Kakungulu from Uganda thrashed MPESA 4-0, topping the table with 16 points, as St. Anthony Boys beat Kyadondo from Uganda 6-1 to come to position two with 14 points.
St. Charles Lwanga beat Musingu 1-0, tying at position two with St. Anthony Boys but separated by goal difference.
Kakungulu will tomorrow play against St. Charles Lwanga and must win to be assured of lifting the hockey title. A win for St. Charles Lwanga will solidify their quest for the title if St. Anthony draws or loses.
St. Anthony will also play their last match tomorrow in an attempt to dethrone Kakungulu, who are already in the top of the table.
The FEASSA hockey tournament is played in a round-robin format, where the team with the highest points is declared the winner and takes the gold medal, while the runners-up receive silver.
Currently, Kakungulu leads with 16 points, followed by St. Anthony boys’ High School and St. Charles Lwanga, both at 14 points. Musingu comes forth with 9 points after losing to St. Charles Lwanga.
Other teams are Mbarara from Uganda at position five with 9 points, Ntare at position 6 with 3 points, MPESA at position 7 with two points and Kyadondo at position 8 with one point.
Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) Executive Member in charge of hockey, Elijah Kiarie, said Kenyan teams have displayed a high level of competition as they inch closer to lifting the hockey title.
In boy’s football, St. Joseph Boys have booked a slot in tomorrow’s semifinals after thrashing Agai 3-1. Butere Boys drew 1-1 with Amus of Uganda to secure a place in the second semifinals.
