Kenya wins athletics competition in FEASSA games  

Brian Odhiambo, a form three student from Riooga School in Kenya, clocked 10.4 minutes to bag a gold in the 100-meter secondary school FEASSA race.

He was followed closely by Luis Haweli who is in form four in Spinners High School Kenya who clocked 10.7 minutes in 100 meters.

Bwambale Joshua from Uganda took position 3 in the same race after clocking 11.0 minutes.

Wilson Chepkwech from Kenya also bagged a gold in 1500 meters’ men category in 3.44.0 minute followed by Omara Raymond of Uganda at 3.44.7 minutes. Ibrahim Kipruto Chebaskwo from Kenya came third after clocking 3.48.6 minutes.

In 400 meters Kenya took position one and two medal with Uganda settling for third place.

Kenya also bagged gold medals in 5000 meters’ race, 300 meters’ race, Discuss and High jump and several silver medals in 400 meters’ race, 1500 meters’ race,300 meters, discus throw and triple jump, short put.

Uganda won the 300 meters’ race for boys after Cheptoek Thomas from Uganda clocked 8.12.9 minutes followed by Kenya’s Brian Kiptoo who clocked 8.13.3 minutes.

Speaking to the media, Brian Odhiambo who won the 100 meters’ race, said this is the first time for him to win despite featuring in the competition three times.

He said in the last two years, he has been settling on a silver medal until this year when he bagged a gold medal.

Odhiambo said that since he joined form one, he has been winning the 100 meters’ national title as he hopes to continue with more practice and participate in Africa championships, World Championships and the Olympics.

In general athletics Kenya bagged a total of 109 medals for Primary and Secondary schools.

Uganda came second with a total of 62 medals and Tanzania took the third position with 30 medals.

The remaining three countries of Burundi, Rwanda, and Ivory Coast did not clinch any medals.

In several instances Kenya athletes had to compete amongst themselves as Kenya 1 and Kenya 2 when other countries failed to field even a single competitor.
