Kiambu County selects teams for 12th KICOSCA games

Kiambu County Government staff underwent rigorous shortlisting processes at Thika Stadium and the Kiambu Community Hall to form competitive teams for various sports that will represent the county in the upcoming 12th edition of the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games to be held in Siaya.

The comprehensive selection exercise is being conducted under the auspices of the Kiambu County Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, demonstrating the county government’s commitment to promoting wellness and teamwork among its workforce.

This year, Kiambu County will participate in 22 diverse disciplines, showcasing the breadth of talent among county staff. The sports categories include football, men’s and women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, table tennis, squash, and pool, providing opportunities for various athletic abilities.

The competition will also feature strength-based events such as men’s and women’s tug of war, alongside intellectual games including scrabble, ajua, and chess, ensuring comprehensive representation across different skill sets and interests.

Cultural disciplines form an important component of the county’s participation, with choir set pieces scheduled to showcase the artistic talents of Kiambu County staff. Athletics events will round out the diverse range of competitions planned for the games.

The KICOSCA Games, scheduled to take place later this year in Siaya County, serve multiple objectives beyond mere competition. The event is designed to foster networking, integration, and cohesion among Kenya’s 47 counties, creating platforms for inter-county collaboration and relationship building.

The games’ philosophy emphasizes promoting wellness and teamwork among county government employees, with the ultimate goal of improving public service delivery through enhanced staff morale, physical fitness, and collaborative spirit.

The selection process demonstrates the county government’s recognition that investing in staff wellness and team-building activities translates into better service delivery for residents. By participating in sports and cultural activities, county employees develop stronger working relationships and improved physical and mental health.

The selection exercise concludes Friday at Thika Stadium, where the final team composition will be unveiled, marking the completion of preparations for Kiambu County’s participation in the prestigious inter-county games.
