Kenya is actively engaged in the 5th Singapore-Africa Ministerial Exchange Visit (SAMEV), being held from August 26-28 in Singapore.
The Kenyan delegation is led by Dr. Abraham Korir Sing’Oei, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, representing Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi.
This high-level ministerial gathering convenes representatives from 13 African nations to deepen diplomatic relations and foster cooperation with Singapore on sustainable development and economic growth.
“Kenya values this opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with Singapore, especially in areas such as urban development, innovation, and climate resilience.
These lessons are vital as we work toward a sustainable and inclusive future,” he said. Since its establishment in 2014, SAMEV has become a pivotal platform for dialogue and partnership between Singapore and African countries.
The biennial event seeks to facilitate the exchange of best practices, development experiences and innovative strategies to address shared challenges. The theme of this year’s forum, “Progressing Together towards a Sustainable Future,” reflects a collective commitment to environmental sustainability, resilient economies, and inclusive growth.
The Kenyan delegation joins counterparts from Botswana, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia, Madagascar, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe, under the stewardship of Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan.
The forum provides a comprehensive agenda including bilateral consultations, thematic discussions on governance, trade, technology, and sustainability and engagement with Singapore’s government officials.
A central feature of the visit is participation in the 8th Africa Singapore Business Forum (ASBF), organized by Enterprise Singapore.
This year’s theme, “Bridging Capabilities, Charting Sustainable Growth,” underscores the importance of public-private partnerships and business collaborations to accelerate sustainable economic development across Africa and Singapore.
The opening address will be delivered by Singapore’s Minister in charge of Trade Relations, Grace Fu, setting the tone for discussions, focused on trade facilitation, investment opportunities and capacity building.
Complementing the diplomatic and economic dialogues are site visits to key Singaporean landmarks renowned for their innovation in urban and environmental management.
The Kenyan delegation will explore the Singapore City Gallery, Marina Barrage, Sustainable Singapore Gallery, Gardens by the Bay, and the National Museum of Singapore.
These visits offer valuable insights into Singapore’s integrated approaches to water management, urban planning, port administration, and sustainable development areas of critical relevance to Kenya’s national development objectives under Vision 2030.
Kenya’s active participation in SAMEV, led by Dr. Sing’Oei, highlights its strategic intent to leverage international partnerships for national progress and regional influence.
The engagement with Singapore, a global leader in innovation and sustainable urban development, signals Kenya’s ambition to adopt adaptable models of growth and governance that can accelerate socio-economic transformation.
As African nations increasingly diversify their international engagements, SAMEV stands out as a vital platform for building constructive South-South cooperation and fostering an inclusive global development agenda.
Kenya’s leadership role within this forum reinforces its commitment to advancing regional integration and sustainable prosperity through strategic international partnerships.
