Industrialization Principal Secretary Juma Mukhwana has confirmed that plans for the construction of a level six hospital at the Sichei area in the Kabuchai constituency of Bungoma County. were in top gear.
Speaking during a stakeholder meeting held at Kibabii University, the PS, who was representing the Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, affirmed that the project that the Africa Development Bank funded will be done in collaboration with the National government.
Mukhwana disclosed that the project was on course and only awaited the final sealing of the deal between the two parties before the groundbreaking ceremony, which is scheduled for March 2026, was done.
He said the project, when completed, will be a major milestone in the Western region of the country, as patients from the entire Great Lakes region and beyond will have access to the latest state-of-the-art medical care services.
“The government remains committed to ensuring all processes are concluded in time to kick off construction since the project successfully went through a pre-feasibility study that settled on the Sichei site for the construction.
Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, however, appealed to local leaders to desist from politicizing the approved site for the new Level 6 hospital project, warning that such talks could derail a landmark initiative set to transform healthcare delivery in the region.
“The approved Level 6 hospital is a transformative facility that will serve Bungoma, the wider region, and even beyond.” Lusaka said
He urged political leadership not to play politics with this project, stating that the stakes are too high for residents of Bungoma County and the region at large.
The governor said that once the hospital is complete, it will offer advanced healthcare services, including treatment of terminal illnesses, while also stimulating the local economy and spurring infrastructure development.
Lusaka concluded by reiterating that the project is a generational investment and called for unity among leaders to safeguard its successful implementation.
