Women have been challenged to venture into the construction industry, which men in the country have largely dominated.
UltiSmart Home Finishes company founder Rahab Kiige noted that the construction industry has been dominated by men but now time was ripe for women entrepreneurs to claim their spot in the sector.
“When it comes to home finishes and interior design, women have a taste that is God-given, but many fear venturing into the sector because of the high costs of investments but we’re urging more women to join us so that we can grow the industry,” Ms Kiige said.
Speaking yesterday during the launch of the fourth branch of UltiSmart Home Finishes in Nanyuki town, Ms. Kiige added that her company was providing opportunities for women to manage branches, allowing them to gain knowledge in the construction industry.
She urged women to take advantage of the construction boom in the country, especially in the affordable housing sector and be become key players in home finishes.
Basco paints Chief Executive Officer Hashim Doshi who also graced the launch noted that the government’s Affordable Housing project had spurred the construction industry in a big way, with hardware merchants reaping huge profits due to the high demand for construction materials.
“The Affordable Housing project has been generating business, jobs and great demand for our products which is good for the construction sector in the country,” Doshi said.
Doshi urged the government to incorporate more hardware merchants in the construction of affordable housing units across the country.
