Stakeholders in West Pokot to strengthen justice for child protection

A multi-agency consultative meeting on children matters in Kapenguria has emphasized the need for a united approach in addressing cases of child neglect, abuse, and exploitation.

During a Children Court Users Committee (CCUC) held at the Kapenguria Law Court Boardroom today, the multi-agency forum drew representatives from Judiciary, National Police Service, Department of Children’s Services, Probation Department, Public Benefit Organizations (PBO) and civil society organizations.

The session moderated by the County Director of Children Services, Philip Wapopa and chaired by Senior Resident Magistrate, Ms Kipchumba Kenei called for partners to come together in making the region a safe place for children, especially those in need of care, and those in conflict with law.

At the onset of the meeting, the members toured and inspected the progress of the newly established Children’s Court and registry at the Kapenguria Law Court.

Partners who supported the establishment of the court were commended for their dedication, time, and resources towards enhancing access to justice for children.

The meeting focused on key agenda items, including preparations for the official launch of the Children’s Court, upcoming Children’s service Week, and the Sixteen Days of Activism campaign.

The meeting ended with a strong call for members to strengthen collaboration in an effort aimed at enhancing protection and welfare for children within the region.
