Government Spokesperson inspects government projects in Vihiga County

A team from the office of the Government Spokesperson led by the Director of public Communications, Joshua Arap Sang today inspected two government projects in Vihiga County.

The team visited Affordable Housing Project located in Milimani in Vihiga Sub County and Luanda modern market in Luanda sub County.

Speaking at the Affordable Housing Project site, the clerk of works Humphrey Bahati from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development said the project whose cost is Sh536 million is at 96.75 percent complete.

Bahati said the project has 220 units out of which 100 two bedroomed, 4o three bedroomed, 20 one bedroomed and 60 studios or bedsitters.

He said that he hopes that the project will be completed soon in line with one of the pillars of Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda which is affordable Housing and settlement.

“This project has created employment opportunities to residents of Vihiga County who are working at the site and also improved the economic standards of the residents of this area,” said Bahati.

He added that this project will help solve the problem of inadequate housing by ensuring residents have access to affordable and safe accommodation.

The site engineer, Ezra Agwingi confirmed that 174 units have already been booked asking residents to purchase the remaining units through Boma Yangu App.

The inspector of Works for Luanda Modern Market, Peter Muita said the market which will be four storey will host 1,000 stalls which will improve the standards of the traders.

Muita said the market is at 33 percent complete even though they are facing some challenges including blackouts, water supply and lack of locally available material.

He added that they are forced to buy quality sand from HomaBay which at times forces them to lag behind.

The assistant site agent, Engineer Caren Chepkemoi said they are projecting that this market will be completed by August 2026 to provide a conducive environment for the traders.

Chepkemoi said once the market is complete it will host many traders who will be protected from rainfall and the harsh sun and the hustles of taking their wares to the stores unlike in the open market.
