Homabay Town MP Peter Kaluma was today attacked by goons during a fracas at Agoro Sare primary school polling centre in Kasipul constituency where his bodyguard lost his gun in the melee.
The MP was at the polling station as an observer for the ODM party when he was attacked by goons who were in the company of one of the by-election candidates Philip Arok.
After the attack, Kaluma told the media he went straight to Oroko mistakenly because he thought it was ODM party candidate Boyd Were who had scheduled to come and vote at around 9.30am.
After he approached Mr. Aroko, Kaluma said he greeted him only to be attacked and his bodyguard’s gun was snatched.
Kaluma said after the gun was snatched by one of the goons “Mr. Aroko took the gun and went with it.”
After the incident, the ODM candidate’s supporters also regrouped and matched to the polling station but police were able to contain them at the gate
Sub county police commander Philip Saera confirmed the incident and said security personnel was able to restore normalcy at the polling centre but added they are still monitoring the situation.
He has called for calm as the voting continues.
