Kiambu records impressive performance at KICOSCA tournament

Kiambu County posted a strong performance at the 12th edition of the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games in Siaya County, clinching medals across indoor, field and track events.

The week-long event brought together teams from across the country to compete in athletics, ball games, and cultural showcases.

Kiambu athletes displayed commendable teamwork, discipline, and competitive spirit, placing the county among the top performers at this year’s championships.

The county secured gold medals in Scrabble, Squash, Men’s Discus Throw, and Men’s Shot Put.

The county also triumphed in the women’s 400-metre race, while the women’s 4×100-metre relay team settled for silver.

The women’s 100-metre team earned bronze, and the Men’s 4×100-metre relay team finished fifth.

Speaking during the athletes’ arrival, Kiambu County Director for Sports, Mr. Samuel Wachira, commended the teams for elevating the county’s sporting reputation.

“Our teams have shown remarkable commitment and discipline. Every medal represents months of hard work and the dedication of both athletes and coaches,” he said.

Women’s 400-metre gold medallist Jane Mwihaki credited teamwork for the victory and expressed satisfaction in her performance.

The men’s volleyball team added to the county’s tally with a silver medal, while the Table Tennis team also secured silver.

In cultural categories, Kiambu’s Cultural group finished second, and the Folksong team came in third. The scrabble team finished fourth in an additional category.

Sports officials attributed the sterling performances to the county’s continued investment in sports development and called for increased support to nurture emerging talent.

“Kiambu has immense potential. With improved training facilities and stronger youth programmes, the county can field even more competitive teams in the future,” an official said.

Team coaches encouraged young athletes to participate in upcoming training camps and inter-ward competitions, noting that early exposure sharpens skills and builds confidence.

Kiambu County has already begun preparations for next year’s KICOSCA games, with plans to expand mentorship programmes and strengthen coaching capacity across multiple disciplines.
