Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthen Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE).
According to the governor, the Ukombozi School Milk Programme, one of the programmes promoting early childhood, has led to increased enrolment and retention of learners across most institutions in the region.
Through the county government-sponsored Ukombozi School Milk Programme, Natembeya said, each of the 47,000 learners gets a packet of milk twice a week.
The Governor, who was addressing the County Assembly during his third State of the County address on Thursday, said that 61 twin classrooms and 28 ablution blocks have been built in Trans Nzoia County, and 781 ECDE teachers have been confirmed on permanent employment terms.
On higher learning, Natembeya revealed the county is working with Kibabii University and Nigeria’s Bells University to establish Trans Nzoia’s first local university.
Picking out World Athletics Male Track Athlete of the Year Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Natembeya celebrated the icon, saying his achievements have “lifted the spirit of an entire county.”
In an effort to identify and nurture more talents, Natembeya highlighted the need to put more resources in sports infrastructural development, revealing that the 20,000-seater Kenyatta Stadium, which is 67 per cent complete, will be ready by the end of this Financial Year.
