Nurses in Migori have raised alarm over continuous threats from the county government following their decision to down tools, citing the county government’s failure to honour the implementation of the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
While addressing the press, Ezekiel Mbire, the County Secretary for the Kenya National Union of Nurses, accused the County Executive of consistently ignoring their pleas despite holding regular meetings.
Among the grievances raised by the nurses were delayed issuance of promotion letters, nonpayment of protective gear allowances, and the lack of an office of the Director of Nursing in the county.
Mbire also cited unsafe and unhygienic working conditions that nurses have been subjected to despite raising the issues with the county executive.
He also disclosed that out of 518 nurses, only 33 nurses have been promoted, with some stagnating in the same job group for nearly nine years.
The County Treasurer for the Union of Nurses, Philis Achieng, urged the county executive to find a way of solving the problem, noting that they remain open to discussion to forge a way forward.
