The Kisumu County Assembly has entered into a partnership with the Kenya Red Cross Society to strengthen disaster response and support local development initiatives.
Speaker Elisha Jack Oraro said the Assembly has passed legislation to entrench the work of the humanitarian organization in Kisumu, ensuring its activities are well integrated at the county level.
He praised the Red Cross for its consistent role in assisting flood victims in Kabonyo, Kanyagwal, Nyakach, and other disaster-prone areas within the county.
“The Assembly is committed to working closely with the Kenya Red Cross to fast-track humanitarian assistance in emergencies, especially in flood-prone zones,” Oraro said during a press briefing at the Assembly grounds.
Kenya Red Cross Western Region Manager Maurice Onyango welcomed the partnership and pledged continued commitment to humanitarian and disaster-response programs in the region.
The agreement is expected to enhance coordination between county authorities and the Red Cross, ensuring timely and effective responses during calamities.
