Molo head teachers decry parental negligence in the region

Parents in Molo sub county have been urged to be responsible in the upbringing of their children to help mould them into future responsible parents.

The call comes after school heads in the area led by Wairimu Lengewa, met and expressed concern over rising cases of child neglect.

The teachers regretted that some parents are now opting to rent houses for their school going children with no close monitoring.

Speaking at Machatha secondary school, Lengewa noted that the rate of child negligence in the sub county was on the rise alleging most parents were abandoning their responsibilities fully to the teachers with some even pushing minors to shoulder heavy responsibilities at a tender age.

“Parents please, can we be present in the development of our children? Paying school fees alone is not enough, do a follow up on all the progress of your child,” advised Lengewa adding: “We must work as a team to mold these children into responsible citizens who can be depended on in the near future.”

The school heads expressed concerns over rising number of students who lack morals, some of whom pay bills on their own and such have no respect for anyone.

Their sentiments were echoed by area MP Kuria Kimani who warned parents against renting houses for school going children noting that they will stir-up the level of immorality due to peer pressure.

“We as parents must be responsible. You can’t abandon your responsibilities by renting a house for your child who is a minor yet you want to question teachers on morals and poor results,” said Kuria.

Kuria urged parents to embrace local schools arguing they have the right personnel and equipment just like national schools they scramble for.

The legislator expressed fear that the rise of rebellion among the Gen-Z might be as a result of negligence by some parents who fear to be accountable.

Kuria said he planned to drill boreholes in almost all primary schools in Molo constituency to ensure learners have adequate time to concentrate on their studies.

The MP said under his tenure he will also prioritize laboratories in all JSS schools to expose learners to practicals at early stages.

“We remain committed here in Molo constituency to ensure we have infrastructure that supports Curriculum based Education. I have a blueprint of ensuring all JSS schools have modern laboratories to give learners the exposure needed,” stressed Kuria.
