The Elgeyo Marakwet County government is ready to implement the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) increment of basic salaries for nurses subject to the Integrated Payroll and Personal Database (IPPD) update by the National Government.
The county government will also increase the nurses risk allowance from Sh3,850 to Sh5,000 which will be backdated to July 1st this year bringing to an end a nurse’s strike which started on November 24th this year. The strike had been called by the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Elgeyo Marakwet branch.
During the signing which was witnessed by KNUN branch Executive Secretary Benson Biwott among others, the County Secretary Lazarus Chebii said the County Government had already issued instructions to the payroll section to effect the payment of the allowances in the December salary.
The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) 2025/2029 was also registered with the employment and labour relations court to ensure that it is legally binding to the two parties.
The county government also assured the nurses that the health department had completed the staff establishment draft and was waiting for the approval of the County Public Service Board to advertise for the positions of the County director nursing and nursing officer.
To ensure uninterrupted delivery of health services, the two parties agreed to be meeting on a quarterly basis to discuss any pending issues and resolve them amicably.
They also agreed to promote open communication and cooperation between the two parties so that they can identify and resolve any potential dispute at an early stage.
