Anyone trying to divide ODM faces disciplinary action, Omanyo

Busia County Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo  has warned that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will take firm disciplinary action against members whose conduct threatens party unity.

Omanyo, who also serves as the party’s Deputy Secretary General, cautioned that ODM will not hesitate to expel members who fail to adhere to the party’s constitution and engage in activities aimed at destabilising the party.

She said no individual should assume they can weaken or destroy ODM through internal divisions, adding that the party leadership will not tolerate what she termed as unnecessary political games.

“Anybody who allows themselves to be used by certain forces to divide or destroy the party from within will face consequences. Our members are sober and careful because they understand what is at stake,” Omanyo said.

The legislator was speaking in Teso Central Sub-County during the issuance of National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) grants to self-help groups on Wednesday.

She noted that while ODM accommodates divergent views and opinions, members must respect the party constitution and established structures to maintain cohesion.

Omanyo assured supporters that despite reported internal wrangles, ODM remains strong and united, adding that the party leadership is actively engaging to address emerging challenges and safeguard unity.

She further revealed that ODM is currently working with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) under the broad-based government arrangement, noting that any future political engagements will be guided by clear negotiations and agreed terms.

“ODM is not a cheap party. We must sit with those who want to work with us, negotiate the terms of engagement and agree. This is the same position taken by our late party leader, Raila Odinga, when he joined the broad-based government,” she said.

Omanyo warned that if negotiations fail, ODM would instead pursue its agenda through political competition in the 2027 General Election.
