Bishop calls for unity and end to tribal discrimination nationwide

The Auxiliary Bishop of Wote Diocese, Simon Peter Kamomoe, has called on Christians to stop discriminating people based on ethnic affiliations and instead demonstrate love and respect to all Kenyans.

Speaking during Ash Wednesday Mass at St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral, Kamomoe urged worshippers to treat everyone equally, without considering tribal identities.

“Stop discriminating people, branding them as Kikuyu, Luo or Kalenjin. If you are children of God, you must show respect for one another,” he said.

Kamomoe warned that Christianity cannot coexist with tribalism. He emphasised that true followers of Christ must promote unity, equality, and respect within their communities.

He further encouraged Christians to support the poor and less fortunate as a demonstration of love, reflecting the teachings of Jesus Christ. Kamomoe linked these actions to building a peaceful, united Kenya that values justice, equality, and respect for all citizens, including youths, women, and men.

“God has given us good health so that we do things right, coexist peacefully, have unity and practice equality and respect for all citizens,” he reiterated.

He added that justice begins in families and communities, stressing that personal conduct reflects the broader societal culture of fairness and harmony.

During the Lenten period, Catholics observe 40 days of prayer and fasting in remembrance of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice, which serves as a time for reflection, unity, and spiritual growth.
