A Bondo-based blogger has been arrested for allegedly damaging the reputation of Yimbo East Member of the County Assembly (MCA), Francis Otiato.
Boniface Ohindo, aka “Super B” was arrested at his residence by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) office, following complaints from Otiato that he was using the social media platforms to harass him and misinform the public on the Ward development projects.
According to Bondo DCIO, Reuben Onchoka, who confirmed the arrest, Ohindo will be arraigned in court, today, to face charges of cyber misuse and harassment.
Meanwhile, residents of Yimbo East Ward who visited Ohindo at Bondo Police cells, led by Erick Oyaro, asked the MCA to consider dropping the case and solving the matter out of court, arguing the accused was once his personal assistant.
Another resident, Margaret Akinyi, accused Otiato of creating fear among residents who question development projects, asking him to consider withdrawing the matter to avoid creating bad blood with the electorate.
When contacted for comments, Otiato had previously made efforts to reach out to the blogger and asked him to stop publishing malicious information about him, but he has continued to tarnish his reputation.
“The accused has persistently resorted to destroying my reputation, forcing me to seek legal redress,” he said.
Otiato, however, hinted that he would consider dropping the matter if Ohindo was remorseful and publicly made apologies, warning, however, that if he fails to do so, he will also sue him for damages caused.
Otiato said that besides being an MCA, he is a human being with a family and falsely published information does not only damage his reputation but also affects his family and children, who also have access to the malicious information.
