Bodaboda riders applauded for lifesaving act

Makueni Deputy Governor (DG) Lucy Mulili has lauded bodaboda riders for their heroic action in saving the life of a pregnant woman and her newborn baby in a remote part of the county.

The riders acted swiftly and came to the aid of the expectant mother and transported her to hospital Bangala Estate in Wote town, and ensured both her and the baby received timely medical care at Makueni County Referral Hospital.

“I am deeply moved by your heroic act, for rushing the mother and her unborn baby to hospital where she received medical care,” said Mulili while addressing wananchi during the World Contraception Day held at Mother and Child Hospital.

The act comes at a time when some of the bodaboda riders have been trained on issues to do with maternal health by the Department of Health jointly with Women Engaged in Development Organization.

The deputy governor gifted the mother with essential baby items including pampers, baby wipes, and a baby bag.

Concerning fistula issues, Mulili urged women with such problems to seek medical assistance in the health facilities saying there are medics ready to treat them.

“Do not be ashamed. Visit the hospitals; there are specialists ready to help you access good treatment,” she said.

On family planning (FP), Mulili emphasized the importance of women to embrace contraceptive use as a way to improve family well-being through proper spacing of children.

“We are working to expand the supply of contraceptives across all health facilities in the county to make them accessible, affordable, and available to everyone,” the DG said.
