Church reaching out to children with different health needs in Nyahururu town

A.C.K Christ the King Cathedral, Nyahururu has embarked on a charity program on children with different health needs in Nyahururu town and its environs.

The interdenominational- free program which is run by Zawadi Centre domiciled in the Cathedral compound not only aims at providing support to the differently enabled children but also relieving caregivers the burden of taking care of their children making them miss out church sermons.

Provost Very Rev John Ngenye, the Patron of Zawdi Centre, said the church on its community outreach started the Zawadi Centre early July this year targeting children with autism, cerebral palsy, down sydrome, learning difficultties, dylexia among other health conditions.

“To begin with, we started admitting children on Sundays to relieve the caregivers who have always wanted to serve the Lord in one way or another and teach the children the word of God in their own beautiful ways,” noted Rev Ngenye.

The Provost assured caregiver’s good and quality care for their children as the church brings the best out of them adding that the program is aimed at offering services to ensure the children enjoy a homely, safe, friendly, fun and holistic care.

Rev Ngenye said that it is the role of the church to touch lives as Jesus Christ did through a holistic ministry where it incorporates preaching the gospel as well as reaching out to the vulnerable and needy in the society.

“The Cathedral is partnering with Larche Kenya and St. Martin, institutions providing support to persons with disabilities, to reach out to the children with different health needs as a way of enhancing the holistic ministry,” pointed out Rev Ngenye.

Zawadi Centre, Program Coordinator, Ms. Beatrice Wanjiku said the centre which started in early July and runs on Sundays between 9.00am to 3.00pm, started with one child and currently has 14 children whose caregivers now can attend Sunday services in their respective churches and later pick them in the evening.

“The Zawadi Centre has eased the burden of caregivers of taking care of their children on Sundays and providing an opportunity where they can attend Sunday services,” observed Ms. Wanjiku.
