Dr. Zachary Gitonga Mutuiri (HSC), a long-serving civil servant in the Education Sector, on Saturday marked his retirement with the launch of his new book ‘Enduring and Thriving in Adversity,’ a memoir aimed at inspiring hope and resilience among readers facing life’s challenges.
Speaking during the launch, Dr Mutuiri said the book was written to encourage those struggling with obstacles such as poor academic performance, financial difficulties, or hostile environments as they try to pursue their future ambitions.
He noted that his own journey from humble beginnings to receiving a Head of State Commendation demonstrated that perseverance and hard work eventually bear fruit.
“I devoted myself and sacrificed wherever I worked, leaving incredible results behind. After 36 years in government service, I saw it worth celebrating my exit with a book launch. It was my plan of finishing strong,” said Dr Mutuiri.
The Educationist who completed his Doctor of Philosophy degree in 2023, explained that writing would keep his retirement years active while allowing him to share lessons from his career and personal life.
He emphasized that success requires patience and persistence, warning young people against shortcuts; “Endurance is key to all challenges, and no challenge lasts forever,” he added.
Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni who was represented by Senior Deputy Secretary at the ministry Mr. Mawira Mungania congratulated Dr Mutuiri for his achievement, encouraging him to continue writing so that future generations could benefit from his experiences.
“If you write what you have gone through or experienced, you will inspire someone going through the same to get encouraged and succeed just as you did,” Ms. Muthoni said. She urged the community to support the author by purchasing copies of the book, with speakers noting that the launch was only the beginning of his literary journey.
Dr Mutuiri’s memoir not only celebrates his civil service career but also seeks to empower readers to overcome adversity and thrive despite challenges.
