Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has praised MSB Educational Institute in Mombasa for its holistic approach to learning, noting that the school combines academic excellence with moral and spiritual values.
Speaking during a visit to the institution, the CS said the government is keen on supporting schools that nurture learners to become well-rounded citizens capable of contributing to national development.
“I was impressed by the creativity and innovation I have seen here, from robotics to authorship and environmental projects,” said the C.S
“Education is an equalizer, and experiential learning helps learners internalize lessons more effectively.”
The CS observed exhibitions by students showcasing skills in writing, science experiments, gardening, and home science demonstrations.
He commended the school’s emphasis on practical lessons, saying it reflects the objectives of the Competency-Based Education (CBE).
Founded in 1985 by the late Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, MSB Educational Institute operates under the guidance of the Dawoodi Bohra community.
The school education is rooted in Quranic teachings while integrating intellectual, physical, and social development.
The institute’s programmes also inculcate practical science experiments, entrepreneurship fairs, financial literacy activities, and nutrition monitoring through Body Mass Index (BMI) checks.
Students also undertake field trips, stage performances, and global awareness events and community service as well.
Learners engage in mangrove planting, beach cleanups, food donation drives, and orphanage support. Last year, the school partnered with its alumni to organize a walkathon that raised food for over 800 people.
The alumni have also launched a feeding programme that provides meals to more than 200 students daily.
Ogamba lauded the school’s commitment to instilling civic responsibility, adding that education must go beyond classroom knowledge to prepare learners for life. “I want to thank the school board, teachers, and parents for their dedication,” he said. “As a ministry, we are ready to support institutions that uphold these values and ensure our learners receive the very best.”
