Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers on Wednesday raided the homes and offices of Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo and four other senior county officers over alleged corruption and economic crimes amounting to Sh382 million.
The investigations relate to the irregular tendering for the construction of County Government offices awarded to Spentech Engineering Limited, which is alleged to have received payments in excess of the work completed.
Governor Nyaribo is also being investigated over irregular authorization of payments to himself totaling Sh18 million, comprising Sh5 million as ex gratia payment and Sh13 million as house allowance reimbursement.
Speaking to the press at the EACC offices in Kisii town, EACC South Nyanza Regional Manager, Ignatius Wekesa, said they had executed more than five court warrants against Governor Nyaribo and four senior officers as part of ongoing investigations in Nyamira.
Wekesa noted they had recovered valuable and critical documents that would fill the existing gaps in their current investigations.
The Regional Manager added that once the probe is completed, they will write a report to the Director of Public Prosecutions for review and determination of the way forward on prosecution of the affected officers.
The four senior officers from various departments in the county were arrested during the operation.
