The Elgeyo Marakwet county government will collaborate with the registrar of persons to conduct a two-week mass registration exercise from September 29th to October 11th to ensure more people receive national identity cards.
Governor Wisley Rotich noted that many residents in the county are lacking IDs, which is a significant obstacle to their registration with the Social Health Authority. (SHA)
“The county ranks among the top five in SHA registration, but many individuals lack IDs, hindering their registration,” the governor said.
The governor urged residents to attend a large-scale exercise in 10 trading centers across five sub counties: Keiyo South, Keiyo North, Marakwet West, Marakwet East, and Kerio Valley.
Furthermore, Rotich announced that the government will provide people with registration options at their convenience, reducing walking distances and transportation costs.
He called on Community Health Promoters (CHP’s), chiefs, ward administrators, the clergy and all opinion leaders to announce to residents about the exercise to ensure that they register.
Rotich called on all those who have attained the age of 18 years and above to turn up for the exercise and also those who have lost their ID’s to come for replacement.
The governor also expressed regret over the significant loss of government services for residents, as accessing these services requires a valid document.
