Engaging the youth in avenues of development 

Kajiado North Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Yusuf Mohammed, has underscored the need for the youth to be involved in national development as well as get exposure to leadership at the grassroot levels.

The DCC, made the remarks during the Oloolua Youth Engagement dubbed the ‘Sauti Mtaani’ Dialogue where he was a chief guest.

During the occasion, Mohammed highlighted the need to also tap into their talents and skills in order to optimize their potential.

“There is need to have an inclusive approach by bridging the communication gap and improving the relationship between the Government and the youth,” he added.

Yusuf reiterated the government’s open-door policy while dealing with youth matters, explaining that involving them, on the ground, especially during the Nyumba Kumi and Village Elders engagements, is key to addressing some of their challenges.

During the meeting the youth called for engagement and inclusivity while at the same time cited harassment and not being involved in the peace and security matters in the area.

The meeting going forward resolved to form a working group involving the youths and the DCC’s office to look into the issue raised, have an evaluation matrix, and focus on finding solutions to the various issues raised during the forum.

In attendance were the Kajiado North Sub-County Police Commander, the Sub-County Administrator, Kajiado County NACADA Coordinator, a representative from the Rotary Club of Ngong Hills, OCS Oloolua Police Station, OCS Ngong Police Station, and enthusiastic youths from the Oloolua Ward.

Oloolua Youth is a community group comprising of young people within the Oloolua Ward, Kajiado, engaged in various activities such as environmental conservation, clean-up exercises, agriculture, and educational programs.
