Faith Star FC lifts Embu Governor’s cup

Faith Star FC from Mbeere North Constituency on Sunday lifted this year’s Embu Governor’s Cup after defeating Marvelous FC from Manyatta Constituency by a solitary goal.

The winning goal was scored in the dying minutes of the first half by Daniel Murathi through an indirect free-kick before a capacity crowd at Moi Stadium in Embu Town.

Faith Star FC took home a cash award of Sh600,000, while Marvelous FC received Sh400,000 in a colourful ceremony presided over by Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Geoffrey Ruku.

In the ladies’ final, Kirimari Ladies FC from Manyatta Constituency emerged champions after thumping Santos Starlets FC from Mbeere South Constituency 4–0. Kirimari Ladies pocketed Sh400,000 prize money, while Santos Starlets earned Sh300,000.

All teams that participated in the second edition of the tournament from the ward and sub-county levels received uniforms and balls from Governor Cecily Mbarire.

Governor Mbarire promised to make the tournament bigger and better by increasing its budget and prize awards to support more grassroots teams. She said the competition aims to nurture and develop young football talents with the goal of elevating strong county teams into the national football leagues.

Currently, Embu County has one team, 3K FC, which has been competing in the National Super League for the past two seasons. The Governor expressed confidence that, with continued motivation and support, more local teams will soon feature in top-flight football.

She further revealed that her administration is focusing on developing and upgrading football infrastructure, including stadiums and playing grounds across the county, to promote sports participation and talent growth.

CS Ruku commended the teams for showcasing exciting football and called the tournament a celebration of talent, unity, and passion among the youth.

He also delivered a Sh1 million donation from Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki to support the participating teams.
