The Kenya National League side Fortune Sacco and Kibera Black Stars each went home with a point after a barren draw at a match played at Kianyaga Stadium, Kirinyaga County.
From the first whistle, hosts Fortune dominated the first half, receiving overwhelming motivation from the huge home fan base with Kibera stars struggling to contain them.
Each team created good chances, doing everything right, but all missed the finishing touch to break the deadlock as the tempo kept rising.
When the final whistle was blown, the scoreboard remained 0–0.
The league matches will resume on January 10, 2026, with Kisumu All-Stars hosting Fortune Sacco in Kisumu while Kibera Black Stars will play against Luanda Villa in Nairobi.
After the match, Kibera Black Stars goalkeeper Elvis Otieno noted that the game was very intense and was all about character.
“Playing away against Fortune, a well-prepared team, made it even tougher. According to our training programme last week, the coach prepared us to expect high balls and different situations, so we were ready for anything. Our focus was simply to give our best on the pitch,” Otieno said
He acknowledged Fortune FC has been on a good run and the match was about which team was stronger on the day and finally hard work paid off with a point.
“I thank God for the three clean sheets. Getting three clean sheets in a row is not easy in this league, and it shows how much effort and discipline the team has put in,” the keeper added.
He asked their supporters to turn out in large numbers to support the team.
Iddi Badi, Kibera head coach, said the draw was a satisfactory outcome, as the match was not easy and the team tried their level best. Going forward, Badi said his players will keep pushing to look for an early goal.
“We created several chances, which is very positive, but unfortunately, they didn’t work in our favor. Still, it ended in a draw rather than a loss. One point away from home is not bad,” Badi noted.
He noted as the league breaks for Christmas, it will provide an opportunity to sit with players, reflect, and push even harder to a better position. He appreciated his goalkeeper for saves, considering how huge-bodied and tactful Fortune’s strikers are.
“I congratulate him and wish him all the best. He needs to keep pushing; the sky is the limit. He is one of the top goalkeepers at Kibera Black Stars,” the coach said.
He promised the fans that the team will always do their best adding that the technical bench and the entire team will keep pushing to return to winning ways.
