The national government has set up four new offices in Maralal town, Samburu County, in a move aimed at boosting service delivery in the vast region.
The newly established Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) include the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services (DOHS), the Ministry of Mining, and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).
Previously, these MDAs operated from regional offices in Nanyuki, Laikipia County, or Nakuru City. Their relocation to Maralal is expected to bring services closer to residents, cutting costs and saving time for locals who often had to travel hundreds of kilometers to access government services.
Welcoming the officers to Samburu, County Commissioner (CC) John Cheruiyot noted that the county headquarters had long lacked representation of crucial government agencies, a situation that hindered effective service delivery.
“Most MDAs have been serving Samburu through their regional offices located far away, but we can now see this trend coming to an end with the establishment of these four offices,” said Cheruiyot.
The CC further revealed that plans are underway to establish a land registry office in Maralal town, which will save residents the inconvenience of seeking land services from Ol Kalou in Nyandarua County. He urged for policy reforms to ensure more regional offices are domiciled in Maralal for effective outreach.
On security matters, Cheruiyot assured the newly posted officers and residents of their safety, saying that security patrols have been reinforced along major roads, including the Maralal–Baragoi road, Archer’s Post–Merille highway, and the Malaso belt that borders Baringo County.
“The government has increased armed National Police Reservists to over 700, and our security organs have fully dominated all known insecurity hotspots. Government employees and residents can now go about their business without fear of attacks,” he said.
