Governor issues 100 wheelchairs to physically challenged residents

The County Government of Bungoma, in partnership with the Walkabout Foundation has given out 100 wheelchairs to physically challenged residents.

While issuing out the mobility devices at the County headquarters in Bungoma town, Governor Kenneth Lusaka reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to address the welfare of persons with disabilities.

Lusaka described it as “a day of dignity and renewed hope” for the beneficiaries, adding this was the fourth phase of wheelchair distribution.

“Every resident of Bungoma County matters because every dream was valid and mobility was a right not a privilege. For this reason, the county will promote the inclusion of every member of the society to enjoy such rights,” he emphasized.

He said the county is working closely with her development partners to promote the welfare of PWDs and had so far distributed 420 wheelchairs across Bungoma. “The initiative is not just about the number of wheelchairs given, but about the 420 lives that were lifted and families supported to make a change,” he noted.

“I urge all the beneficiaries to make full use of their new mobility devices to pursue education, employment, enterprises, and active community life,” the Governor said.

Lusaka applauded the Walkabout Foundation for its dedication saying their contribution was restoring dignity and strengthening communities.

The governor also praised the County Special Programs Directorate for ensuring that support consistently reached those who needed it most.

Lusaka reiterated that his administration will continue championing the empowerment of persons with disabilities to ensure no one is left behind.

The governor noted that disability should not be seen as an inability but as resilience, power, and potential.
