Governor M’Ethingia champions youth empowerment through sports

Meru County Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering and growing youth talents across the county, particularly through organised sports activities.

Speaking Sunday at Maili Tatu Stadium during the Njia ward football tournament, the Governor underscored the importance of nurturing talents as a pathway to youth empowerment.

In the Njia ward tournament, ten teams were competing, with the Mailitatu Stallion Team emerging as the winner and walking away with a cash prize of Sh200,000 for their victory.

The County Boss emphasised that such tournaments were not only recreational but also acted as a critical sourcing ground for forming the county’s official sports teams.

“The best teams from the wards will be selected to form sub-county teams, and from there, the best will represent Meru at the county level,” he stated.

Echoing the Governor’s sentiments, Njia Ward Member of County Assembly Ali Mwenda noted that talent among the youth should be nurtured at all costs.

He further urged the youth to stay active, avoid laziness, and take full advantage of such opportunities provided by the county government.
