Govt calls for more parental engagement

Principal Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, has urged parents across the country to take a more active role in supporting the growth, education, and emotional wellbeing of their children.

Speaking during the distribution of relief supplies at Muhudu Secondary School in Vihiga County on Friday, Dr. Imbunya emphasised that parental involvement is key to the success of government programmes, aimed at uplifting youth and improving access to education and social services.

“It is not enough to provide children with food and shelter—parents must also walk with them, guide them, and be present in their lives,” said the PS. “We cannot build a strong nation if families are not engaged at the most basic level.”

Dr. Imbunya also encouraged parents to participate in school activities, attend community forums, and create a safe environment at home that fosters positive behaviour and learning.

Her remarks come amid increased government efforts to empower families through social protection programmes, bursary schemes, and psychosocial support initiatives, especially in underserved regions.
