A 10 year old girl was yesterday evening attacked by a hyena in Barsaloi Village of Samburu County.
The young girl was looking after animals when the hyena attacked, seriously injuring her. The minor was rescued by people who were passing by.
She was later taken Maralal hospital for treatment, where doctors told KNA that she may be transferred to Nakuru for further treatment.
Reliable sources said two other children have reportedly been bitten by the said hyena in the same village.
Residents fear that the hyena could be rabid and called on the government through Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) to intervene before the animal strikes again.
They said similar attacks by wild animals in the area have seen no compensation from KWS for affected victims and families.
