Jomvu MP Badi Twalib has urged the government to retain the National Government-Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), citing its critical role in promoting equality through improved infrastructure, education and security in underserved areas.
Speaking during the commissioning of the newly constructed Kibarani primary school, built for Sh20 million through the local NG-CDF kitty, Twalib reaffirmed his commitment to expanding access to quality education, better infrastructure and improved road networks for his constituents.
The new public school, the first in the sprawling Kibarani informal settlement, has already enrolled 390 learners, ending years of hardship for children, who previously trekked for long distances to access schools in the neighboring Mvita and Changamwe constituencies.
Barely three days earlier, Twalib was recognized by Mizani Africa as one of Kenya’s top-performing legislators, ranking tenth nationally and first at the Coast region for spearheading impactful development projects.
A separate survey by Super Brand Africa ranked the MP second nationally, just behind Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, while retaining the top position at the Coast region.
“The awards didn’t come easily; they are a result of a proven track record. For instance, no one believed a school and a concrete access road could be built in Kibarani, but here we are,” he said.
Twalib assured residents that their homes would not face demolition, adding that the government had plans to purchase land from private owners and allocate it to squatters in Kibarani.
“The Head of State has an elaborate plan to buy off pieces of lands, currently being occupied by the squatters.
Instead of the tycoons evicting the squatters, the government will agree with them and the land will be surveyed and allocated to Kibarani residents,” he added.
To promote sports and nurture young talent, the MP also pledged to construct a Sh25 million FIFA-standard mini stadium at Amani Primary School, complete with a VIP pavilion, changing rooms, and facilities for persons with disabilities.
“I dedicate my efforts to you, my people. No amount of money can repay your trust. The only way I can truly appreciate you is by serving you diligently,” he affirmed.
Jomvu Sub-County Director of Education Maimuna Omar encouraged parents to enroll their children in the new public school and not in unregistered private institutions.
“Most schools in this locality are not registered by the government, and even the teachers are not trained. Don’t mislead your child by taking him to a private school in Kibarani,” she stated, pleading with the MP through NG-CDF to also construct a Junior Secondary School at Kibarani.
On her part, Jomvu Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Dolphin Okongo urged the residents to take advantage of the resumption of the continuous voter registration by the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) to register as voters across Huduma Centres and IEBC offices to be able to take part in the civic duty during the election and elect leaders of their choice.
The DCC further warned the residents not to lower their guard on Mpox, as the sub-county is frequented by visitors and truck drivers from neighboring countries, and they are not off the hook.
“COVID-19 protocols still apply in Mpox. On Tuesday, we will launch the Mpox vaccination for health service providers, truck drivers, and the girls we call ‘Happy Girls’ at Jomvu Sub-County Hospital. The rest should follow the protocols; chiefs will intensify sensitization,” said Okongo.
